Chris Angel Magic Coloring Book Review: The Coloring Book That Performs Magic Tricks
Chris Angel Magic Coloring Book Review: The Coloring Book That Performs Magic Tricks
I'll admit it—I thought I was buying a regular coloring book.
Instead, I accidentally bought one of the coolest novelty coloring books I've ever seen.
If you're a fan of magic, collectibles, or just unusual books, the Chris Angel Magic Coloring Book is much more than a stack of pages waiting for crayons. It's actually a classic magician's prop disguised as a coloring book, and the surprise completely caught me off guard.
First Impressions
The cover looks exactly like what you'd expect from a souvenir coloring book you'd pick up after a magic show.
Nothing about it hints that it's anything unusual.
I opened it expecting line art ready to color...
Instead, every page was completely blank.
For about five seconds, I genuinely wondered if I'd somehow bought a defective coloring book.
The Magic Begins
Thankfully, the instructions explain the book isn't broken—you simply have to perform the trick.
The directions tell you to say a magic word.
Naturally, I went with the classic:
"Abracadabra!"
I flipped through the pages again...
…and suddenly the blank pages had transformed into black-and-white illustrations.
Okay.
That was genuinely fun.
Wait... There's More
Then came the second trick.
The instructions tell you to say another magic word.
This time I went with:
"Hocus Pocus!"
Another flip through the pages...
…and now every illustration had magically become fully colored.
It's a wonderfully simple illusion, but if you've never seen one of these magic coloring books before, it's surprisingly effective.
Then, just when you think you've figured it out...
The pages disappear again.
The whole routine loops back to blank pages, making it a fun little trick to show friends, family, or kids.
It's Actually a Real Coloring Book
Here's the interesting part.
Despite being a magic prop, it really contains genuine coloring pages.
If you stop the trick at the black-and-white stage, you'll find illustrations featuring Chris Angel in a variety of over-the-top magical scenarios.
The catch?
If you color directly in the book, you'll interfere with the illusion.
So if your goal is to actually color the artwork, I'd recommend making photocopies of your favorite pages first.
That way you can enjoy the artwork without sacrificing the magic.
The Artwork
The illustrations themselves are playful and fun, featuring Chris Angel performing impossible stunts and illusions.
Some of my favorite pages include:
- Chris on top of the Luxor in Las Vegas
- Floating above the famous pyramid
- Riding elephants
- Standing over the Grand Canyon
- Escaping alligators
- Swimming with sharks
- Several stage illusion scenes
Some images left me wondering whether they were inspired by actual performances or created specifically for the coloring book.
Either way, they're entertaining.
One page in particular had me laughing because I honestly had no idea what was happening.
It made me want to go look up the illusion just to see it in action.
A Fun Las Vegas Souvenir
If you've ever seen one of Chris Angel's performances in Las Vegas, this coloring book makes for a surprisingly memorable souvenir.
I even found myself wondering whether one of the shark-themed illustrations was inspired by the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay.
Whether it was or not, it's a fun image.
I also couldn't help wishing I'd seen one of those giant outdoor illusions where Chris appeared to float above the Luxor while I was visiting Las Vegas.
That would've been a memorable sight.
Not a Huge Coloring Book
If you're buying this expecting a massive coloring book with hundreds of pages, that's not what you're getting.
The page count is fairly small.
But honestly...
That's not really the point.
This book is designed as a novelty item first and a coloring book second.
And it succeeds wonderfully at being exactly that.
The Surprise Factor
What really sold me on this book was the surprise.
I had absolutely no idea it contained magic tricks.
I honestly thought I had purchased an ordinary souvenir coloring book.
Discovering the disappearing pages, line art, and fully colored illustrations made opening the book feel like part of the performance itself.
It's rare for a coloring book to genuinely surprise me.
This one did.
Final Verdict
The Chris Angel Magic Coloring Book is one of the most unique coloring books I've come across.
It's equal parts:
- Magic trick
- Souvenir
- Collectible
- Coloring book
If you're a fan of magic or you're looking for an unusual gift, it's hard not to recommend.
What I Loved
- A genuinely surprising magic effect
- Fun, interactive presentation
- Real coloring pages hidden inside
- Great collectible for magic fans
- Makes a fun conversation piece
Things to Keep in Mind
- There aren't many pages.
- Coloring directly in the book will affect the illusion.
- It's more of a novelty collectible than a traditional coloring book.
Even so, it's one of those purchases that left me smiling because it completely exceeded my expectations.
Sometimes the most memorable coloring books aren't the ones with the fanciest artwork—they're the ones that make you say, "Wait... how did it do that?"
This one definitely did.
