Royal Flush by Scott Bartlett

by Scott Bartlett is a humorous medieval tale of a man known only as the King. As his Kingdom careens toward catastrophe, his adviser convinces him he should marry and so the King cruises seedy taverns looking for likely maidens. His incompetence and weakness for beautiful women drag him deeper and deeper into trouble. He is portrayed as a cross dresser by the Kingdom Crier (the Kingdom’s most popular tabloid). Shortly after, he must defend his castle against a siege, with only his royal fiddler—while attempting to steal his royal fiddler’s girlfriend.

If you are looking for a serious story, then this is not the book for you, but if you feel like laughing then try this book. It is very Monty Pythonish in nature with a lot of silliness such as the King riding around on a goat and a monarch completely oblivious to his kingdoms problems. The novel is full of mad British humor.

I’m not a huge fan of this sort of humor, but I did find parts I really liked such as the Kingdom Crier. I was sad to see it be blown up. I found Royal Flush to be well written and edited and no complaints with the kindle formatting.

For some, the humor may be too silly so I suggest downloading the free sample and trying it first to make sure it is your cup of tea before buying.

If you’ve had a bad day and need something to cheer yourself up then give this title a look. It may be just what the King ordered.
